Ed: That’s a great question and we really, really like that question. How can I be happier? There’s plenty of people out there who would tell you that the way to be happier is to get more stuff and they’re probably the people who sell the stuff.
Stuff is good. Stuff is fun and we can enjoy stuff, but the thing is eventually the happiness from the stuff wears off and you need more stuff and it becomes a never-ending cycle of getting more stuff. As I said, nothing wrong
with having stuff and we like stuff, but can we find a way to be happier and keep our power?
What does that mean? That means if you need stuff to be happy then you’ve given your power away to stuff. So is there a way that you can be happy from within so that you don’t need stuff and still enjoy stuff when you get it but be happier from within.
So let’s think about this, happiness is a feeling. Is there a way that you can conjure that feeling within you and be happy? So let’s say you’re going on vacation…isn’t half the fun thinking about vacation and what you’re going to do on vacation and planning the vacation…everything and doesn’t bring you happiness and doesn’t that make you
feel good and bring you joy?
so you’re actually not on vacation yet, but you’re feeling the joy of it and it’s making you happy. Can you do that with other things? Of course you can. Can you focus your mind on things that make you happy and feel the joy of it
without actually having to have it and doesn’t that bring more happiness?
The other thing that you can do is as you move through your day,you can look around and notice things that you like. We’re so trained to notice the negative and notice the things that are different but if we could take the time and
learn to notice and focus on the things that I like, that you like…
I like seeing this beautiful sunset. Isn’t a really cool? I really enjoyed the conversation with so-and-so. Look at that beautiful bird. Look at this beautiful piece of art. Look at this beautiful photograph. Any of those things you can focus on. Look at this beautiful clothing that this person is wearing. Look at that great this or that great that and start to train yourself to focus more on the positive.
You’ll be happier because you will conjure happiness from within which is the only place it really comes from. Happiness is a feeling and if you focus on the feeling of happiness by using your mind, by using your focus, we promise you you will be happier.
